LFO Tarts N' Crafts Vendor Callout 2012!

That’s right, folks. LFO is back on the scene and pleased to announce the call for applications to our spring edition of Tarts n’ Crafts. It has been great to see new craft shows evolve in the Ottawa community these past couple years and we have missed being part of it! That said, this craft sale will be on a slightly smaller scale than our previous ones.
We are using this spring's sale to fundraise for our annual Rock Camp for Girls workshop.
Please read carefully as there are some changes from past applications.

To meet your tabling requests, we’re offering the following options:
A. Rental of 5X2 ft table - $35 (there is a possibility that the available tables may be large round ones approx 5' in diameter)

Because of the overwhelming demand for tables, LFO will jury all Tarts n’ Crafts applicants based on the following considerations:

• Is it a good fit with the LFO mandate?
• Is the product well-made, with a DIY, edgy aesthetic?
• Do the crafters chosen strike a balance between local, regional and national representation?
• Do the crafters chosen represent a variety of products?

LFO is an inclusive, feminist organisation. We feel that providing a venue for women artists counters the obstacles and discrimination that women often face, including sexism, homophobia and racism.

Write us with any questions you have about the craft sale. And, of course, apply quickly! The deadline for all applications is April 1st/12. If accepted you will receive a confirmation e-mail by April 15th/12. No late applications will be considered-no exceptions!!!

LFO Volunteers Needed!

Ladyfest Ottawa Volunteers Needed!
Info Meeting on Jan 31, 2012, 7pm at Bridgehead on Bank & Albert.
The not-so-secret ingredient to Ladyfest Ottawa’s (LFO) success is its volunteers, and we are recruiting!

LFO is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization that is open to everyone. Since its inception, LFO has been showcasing women's artistic expression and sharing ideas through music festivals, performance, film & video, exhibitions, panels and workshops. We feel that providing a venue for women artists counters the obstacles and discrimination that women often face, including sexism, homophobia and racism. We try to address these issues in our events, along with encouraging a D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself), hands-on approach to skill sharing.

Our dedicated and multi-talented volunteers work tirelessly to make each LFO event notable. Everyone has a talent to share and all are welcome to join us!

What are we looking for in a volunteer?
  • Reliability
  • Comfortable working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Organized
  • Interested in music, arts, anti-racism, feminism and/or queer culture
  • Sense of humour

We are especially in need of people with skills in:
  • Accounting
  • Graphic Design
  • Social Media
  • Event Planning
  • Fundraising
If you would like to get more info about our plans for 2012 and volunteering with us, we will be having an Volunteer Information Meeting at Bridgehead (@ Bank & Albert) on Tues Jan 31st, 2012 at 7pm. If you can't make the meeting but are interested in being a part of LFO, please drop us a line at ladyfestottawa@gmail.com.

Rocktober! Girls rock the capital with Ladyfest Ottawa’s Rock Camp

Ladyfest Ottawa (LFO) is getting ready to rock out for two days, starting on October 22, 2011! Rock Camp for Girls is a volunteer-run weekend where local female musicians mentor teenage girls (ages 13 to 17) on how to come together and play in a rock band.

Thanks to the generous support of sponsors such as LFO, Capital Rehearsal Studios, Alterna Savings and Raw Sugar Café, the camp is offered to participants for only $3 or a canned food donation. For such a low cost, the girls are given the chance to hone in on their instrument skills and develop band dynamics with their peers, inspiring and empowering them with new creative outlets. Mentors cover everything from plugging in an amp to song-writing and performing. The weekend wraps up with an exclusive concert, where the girls' newly formed bands each perform a song in front of their families and friends.

If you are between the ages of 13 and 17 and would like to participate in this two-day crash course to get schooled in bass, guitar, drums and vocals, please e-mail lforockcamp@gmail.com for registration info. Space is limited so don’t procrastinate, sign up now!
